The solo Le Journal du PCT II aims to convey the emotional tones experienced during a roughly six-month hike along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) in the United States. Yu-Hsuan Chiu combines the materials collected during this journey—logbook entries, sound recordings, and research videos. Following in the tradition of walking artists—who view outdoor space as a studio and walking as a form of landscape performance—the PCT becomes a score to generate a sensory experience: P for practice, performance; C for change, contact; T for traversal, translation.
From the hike to its transposition on stage, from outdoors to indoors, Le Journal du PCT II offers audiences an escape, a wandering, a transgression that invites reflection, sensation, and experimentation.

How can walking be approached as a dance practice?
What is the state of my body while walking, climbing mountains?
If walking is already a performance and forms a score, how can this score be reinterpreted or transposed indoors on a stage? How can a landscape be created that materializes within my body?

Biographie

Following in the footsteps of walking artists, Yu-Hsuan Chiu grounds her choreographic work in attentive listening to the landscape, close to its contours. From Taipei to Montpellier, from the National University of the Arts in Taipei to the Master Exerce (ICI—CCN/UPVM), she cultivates a corporeality at the crossroads of paths. Her dance research is an invitation to attune to the living world. Through walking, an act of mediation, she connects with shared territories, coexists with other-than-human beings, and establishes social relations that shape her senses. Transfigured in this way, she explores her new relationship to the world through dance. She is currently an artist-researcher and doctoral candidate at Paul Valéry University Montpellier 3.
